- Attrition (dental)
- Loss of tooth structure caused by tooth-on-tooth contact: the physical damage that grinding produces. Claimed separately from bruxism itself.
- Bruxism

- GARP M

- Impairment points
- The numeric measure of how much your accepted conditions affect you. Points from separate conditions combine, rather than being assessed in isolation.

- MRCA
- Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004. From 1 July 2026, the single Act under which all new claims are assessed.
- NLHC
- Non-Liability Health Care. Treatment for certain conditions, notably mental health, without needing to prove the link to service.
- OPG
- Orthopantomogram. The panoramic x-ray showing all your teeth and both jaw joints in a single image. Standard evidence in a dental assessment.
- Permanent impairment (PI)
- Compensation for the lasting effects of an accepted condition, once it has stabilised. Assessed in impairment points.
- SOP
- Statement of Principles. The criteria set by the Repatriation Medical Authority defining what can connect a specific condition to service.
- VEA
- Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986. Closed to new claims from 1 July 2026.
- VETS Act
- Veterans' Entitlements, Treatment and Support (Simplification and Harmonisation) Act 2025. The legislation that consolidated the three schemes into one.
- Xerostomia
- Clinical term for dry mouth. A very common medication side effect and a major driver of dental damage.
